Marinetek impresses in the Caribbean
Grenada-Beaches.com The yachts at Port Luis Marina can soon moor onto piers which have been built with Finnish expertise.Finnish marina developer Marinetek will supply the second construction phase to Port Luis Marina in the Caribbean. Port Luis Marina is located in St. George, the capital city of Grenada.
The 105 new berths will be completed by the end of the year. They are suited up to 150-feet, or 45-meter long cruisers. The heavy duty pontoons that Marinetek supplied to the marina last year were designed for twice as big, 300-feet cruise ships.
The client is Camper & Nicholson Marinas. Marinetek has cooperated with the company since 2002, when it worked on Grand Harbor Marina in Malta.
The order for Grenada will be manufactured entirely in Finland, since the capacity of the company's Florida factory has been sold out. The manufacture of the piers in Vantaa has employed the two production lines of the factory already for two months. Once finished the piers will be shipped to the Caribbean directly from the west-coast town or Rauma in September.
The delivery contains Marinetek concrete pontoons, mooring points for ships and all the other necessities except the concrete anchors which are manufactured in Grenada. According to Marinetek the products will endure Class 1 hurricanes and the corrosion prone conditions of the region.
Marinetek Group Oy is a company specialized in pontoon and marina construction. It was established in 1994 and it has business activities in 40 countries, with 13 daughter companies in ten countries. Production takes place in seven countries.
Marinetek supplied piers also for Dubai's famous Palm Jumeirah marina last year. The artificial island is the world's most expensive marina site. Earlier this year Marinetek won the marina contract of Florida's West Palm Beach, which will be completed for Christmas, together with Grenada.
