Marinetek expanding in China

Pontoon and marina manufacturers Marinetek Group has supplied a complete marina to the city of Longkou in China.  News of the company’s expansion on the Chinese markets was announced by Kauppalehti.

The various components and elements of the marina were manufactured primarily in Finland.  In addition to the pontoons, the delivery included concrete mooring booms and harbour equipment such as electrical power outlets and extinguisher systems.  The Longkou marina is capable of handling boats of up to 30 metres.

Marinetek’s strategy is to achieve a strong basis in Asia and especially in China, India and Korea, the company’s CEO Ilkka Seppälä told Kauppalehti.  The Longkou contract was implemented through the Hong Kong office of Marinetek but the company will be establishing a subsidiary in mainland China as well. A factory manufacturing marina elements will also be built in China.

― If we’re serious about being the global number one, we have to get into China where growth of the boating culture is the greatest anywhere in the world.  We will be the first western company in this field with its own production in China, continues Seppälä.

He believes that the bureaucracy and cultural differences in China make it essential to have a physical presence in the country.

Founded in 1994, Marinetek Group is the world’s largest marina and pontoon manufacturer in Europe.  It has production facilities in seven countries and a distribution network spanning 40 countries.
