Mappa Stellare’s wilderness tours awarded in Italy

MEK Exotic wilderness tours to Finland proved to be worth the Italian Sustainable Travel award
Genoa-based Mappa Stellare, a tour operator owned by Finnish Liisa Väisänen, has been awarded a Sustainable Tourism acknowledgement for its bear and wolverine tours to Northern Karelia. The acknowledgement was awarded by a major Italian travel magazine, L’Agenzia di Viaggi.

The Finnish cooperator of Mappa Stellare’s wildnerness tours is Erä-Eero, a Lieksa-based company owned by Eero Kortelainen. The travel package includes for instance at least one night at a cabin in Koli National Park, where tourists can observe bears and wolverines feeding on carcasses.

Last summer’s top sightings included for instance a female wolverine feedings its kits, and a beaver.

– This is a significant acknowledgement for us, for L’Agenzia di Viaggi is a 45 years old travel magazine, which is followed by all the professionals within the Italian travel industry, says Liisa Väisänen.
