Madventures takes National Geographic by storm

SUB Madventures reality travel series has already been sold to 189 countries. Riku Rantala is one of the "madventurers".

TV-rights to Madventures have been sold to the National Geographic Society. The brand new distribution contract means that the award winning reality travel series has been sold to a total of 189 countries. Madventures is the creation of madventurers Tuomas Milonoff and Riku Rantala.

National Geographic Society is one of the world's biggest non-profit educational and scientific organizations. The organization runs several TV-channels, out of which National Geographic Adventure -channel will show past spring's international production of Madventures.

In Europe the rights to Madventures have been sold to Russian MTV, Norwegian TV2, Polish Polsat Play, Belgian Acht, Hungarian TV3 and Israeli Travel Channel, in addition to the original producers, Sub-TV in Finland and Fiver in the UK. All the channels intend to broadcast the series during next year, which means that Madventures will be the most widely distributed Finnish TV-programme ever.

The writer of Madventures, Riku Rantala and director Tuomas Milonoff are proud of the fact that Finnish straightness, humour and top-quality travel documentary attract such a wide international audience.

- This clearly shows that there are people everywhere who want something else from their TV sets than plastic and balloons, says Rantala.

According to Rantala the most important thing about the contract was its extent, and the good reputation that National Geographic has as a TV-channel.

- Moneywise speaking we are basically dealing with peanuts, although the contract covers the entire world. Very few people actually get rich by selling TV rights, which is not the point of us doing this anyway, Rantala concludes.
