Leena Lehtolainen’s best sellers on sale in the US

LEHTIKUVA / MATTI BJÖRKMAN Leena Lehtolainen’s books will soon be available to read on the other side of the Atlantic.
Amazon Publishing has bought the World English rights to detective novelist Leena Lehtolainen’s Maria Kallio books and the Bodyguard trilogy. The goal is to launch the first books in the USA already during this year with an advertising campaign built around the writer’s brand.

The contract is for a total of 14 books. Lehtolainen’s agent Elina Ahlbäck says the contract is the first of its size in Finland.

— Enthusiasm in particular for Finnish crime fiction is continually increasing in the wider world. Each international contract is an achievement allowing bridges to be built for the future success of Finnish writers and increasing awareness of Finnish literature, explains Ahlbäck.

There is widespread interest in Leena Lehtolainen’s books abroad. Foreign language rights have been sold so far to 24 countries, including Romania, Hungary, Poland, Japan and Germany. Her books are particularly popular in Germany and the whole Maria Kallio collection has been published in German.

The Chinese language version of the Where did the girls disappear to part of the Maria Kallio series was published in January in Taiwan. Lehtolainen is currently making a  guest appearance at the Taipei international book fair.
