Konecranes delivers five RTG cranes to the island of Sumatra

The island of Sumatra enters the RTG era.
In June 2010, Konecranes received an order for five rubber tired gantry (RTG) cranes from the Indonesian state-owned terminal operator Pelindo 1. The cranes will be delivered to Belawan International Container Terminal, ‘BICT’, owned by Pelindo 1.

BICT is located in the city of Medan on the west end of the Malacca strait, along main international shipping routes, on the opposite side of the strait from the huge port of Singapore. BICT is in the process of increasing the capacity of its terminal and thus investing in new equipment.

The order is Konecranes’ first RTG crane delivery to Sumatra, after which there will be more than 20 Konecranes RTGs in the whole Indonesia.

The current delivery of five 8-wheel RTGs can stack seven containers on top of each other, in addition to which the space in between the crane legs can accommodate a truck lane and six containers next to each other. The RTG cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 tonnes.
