Kone to modernize elevators and escalators at Los Angeles International Airport
KoneKone was awarded a contract to provide a mix of new installations and modernization to all elevators and escalators at the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The contract covers maintenance, new installation, equipment repairs and upgrades in each of the eight terminals at LAX and is estimated to be worth more than EUR 16 million. The order was booked in the second quarter of 2009.
An estimated 59 million people travel through LAX every year, making it one of the busiest airports in the United States.
- Besides serving the United States' second largest city, LAX is the western gateway for many foreign visitors. It's important that they can travel throughout the airport complex, from arrival to departure, with ease, says Vance Tang, Kone EVP and Area Director for the Americas.
Kone will look to utilize energy-saving products that will help increase the overall sustainability of LAX's current transportation systems. The modernization of the equipment will begin in September 2009. The project is estimated to be completed by July 2011.
