KONE delivers 41 elevators to new
super-hospital in Bristol
KONE Bristol’s new super-hospital will have a plenty of elevators, one for every 20 beds.KONE will deliver 41 energy efficient elevators for the new state-of-the-art Southmead Hospital in Bristol, UK. The order was placed by Carillion plc, the main contractor for the 500 million euro Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme.
The hospital's new elevators feature KONE's regenerative drive systems, which can recover up to 20 percent of an elevator's total energy consumption, reducing the building electricity usage and providing considerable cost savings over the lifetime of the equipment. Once completed the technology will help the hospital to reach a BREEAM energy rating of "excellent".
The new 800-bed super-hospital will concentrate on acute services, which are currently provided by Southmead and Frenchay hospitals. The hospital will provide world-class healthcare to over 500,000 people in the area. The construction work started in August last year and the hospital is expected to open in early 2014.
