Iron Sky targets international film markets

Iron Sky is the forthcoming science fiction movie by the Tampere-based production company Energia. Energia became famous in 2005 by ’Star Wreck: In The Pirkinning’ - sci-fi parody, which was realized by a group of amateurs. Star Wreck has been a great success and it has been donwloaded online nearly 9 million times.

Iron Sky portrays runaway nazis on the dark side of the moon intending to return to the Earth in year 2018.
 
The script was written by Johanna Sinisalo, the Finlandia–literature award winning author. The director of the movie is Timo Vuorensola. Because Iron Sky targets the international film markets, it will be filmed in English.

Iron Sky will be produced in close co-operation with the internet community. A specific online service for this purpose can be accessed via www.wreckamovie.com

- Communality is an element, which is missing in today’s film industry. By taking movie enthusiastics into concrete consideration there is a chance to touching the roots of communality – a situation, whereby a group of people work together towards achieving something larger than life, comments director Vuorensola.

Until now Iron Sky has received funding from the European Union Media-programme and the Finnish Film Foundation. The recent Cannes Film Festival also brought in an additional 1,85 million Euros to Iron Sky’s budget.

The total budget of Iron Sky is approximately 4,2 million Euros. The film will be shot in the early part of 2010 and it is expected to be ready by January 2011.
