ICT-sector positive about future
sxc- In such challenging times as now Information Technology is a ingenious way for companies to improve their methods of profitability. Now is the right time to enhance business processes for instance by introducing electronic invoicing, comments Markku Lahtinen, commissioner at the Helsinki Region Chamber of Commerce.
Companies in the ICT-sector trust that the economic situation will continue to be steady.
A third of the participants in the ICT-barometre expect the current economic situation to improve, 41 per cent expect it to remain similar as before and 24 per cent expect the situation to get worse. The most positive views were found in Oulu and Turku regions, while the bleakest views were expressed by companies employing over 250 employees.
62 per cent of the companies met their profitability targets as expected or better. However, 38 per cent of the companies didn't accomplish to meet their targets as expected. The development views are positive, 42 per cent of all companies expect their profitability to improve next year.
The most positive profitability views can be found in small and medium business, while large companies lack confidence in improvement.
The research results indicate that the availability of workforce is not a significant problem at the moment. In Helsinki region two participants out of five believe that foreign workforce will have a higher demand in the coming years.
The Chambers of Commerce compiled the barometre in May as an Internet enquiry. The participants were managers of 281 companies. The Barometre was effectuated by eight Finnish Chambers of Commerce.
