Hitura nickel mine restarts

The operations of Hitura nickel mine have been restarted, reports the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE. During the summer test mining and equipment testing have been carried out at the mine, which was closed in 2008. Vesa-Jussi Penttilä, the CEO of the mine’s owner, Belvedere Mining Oy, reported that Hitura’s nickel production can now be officially announced restarted.

According to Penttilä the company attempts to maintain continuous production after the mine’s restart. However, at first the mine will be closed in the weekends due to shortage of staff.

– In August we will shift into a continuous three-shift system in the concentration processing. We have a total of 70-80 employees, half of whom have been hired from independent contractors, says Penttilä.  

The mine is owned by Canadian Belvedere Mining.
