Green stamp saves nature

Itella

Finnish national mail enterprise Itella has launched an environmental 'Posti Vihreä' stamp as part of its Green Program. Deliveries with the stamp are carbon-neutral since the carbon emissions resulting from the mail delivery will be compensated by participation in climate projects. The stamp carries an extra fee of 5 cents, which will be allocated to support the construction of the first solar power plant in Finland.

According to Itella the Finns are among the first in the world to have the chance to choose a climate friendly option when sending mail. The green alternative to ordinary stamps is expected to meet demand. Companies can opt for Itella Green -service, where carbon emissions resulting from mail deliveries are fully-compensated.

The environment has been observed in all manufacturing phases of the environmental Posti Vihreä stamp. It is the first stamp in the world that is made of 100 percent recyclable OBA-free paper material. It contains no bleach or brightening substances and no wax or shine substances have been added on the surface. The fresh green tone comes from a water-solvent print colour which does not strain the environment. The stamp has been designed by Timo Berry and Teemu Ollikainen.

The aim of Itella Green environmental program is to reduce the company's carbon emissions by 30 percent by 2020. The comparison year is 2007.
