Greater cooperation between health and wellbeing sectors
A strategic centre for science, technology and innovation (SHOK) in health and wellbeing will be set up in Finland. Greater top-grade expertise is expected to increase both exports and interest in Finland.SHOK’s objective is to produce top-grade expertise and interdisciplinary innovations, increase cooperation between the sectors and develop new products, services and operating methods, says Saara Hassinen, the managing director at Finnish Bioindustries, who is coordinating the preparation.
Business life will benefit from the centre in the form of growing export activity and society in the form of better health and wellbeing.
Special expertise can be found in Finland in areas such as ICT, research into biotechnology, diagnostics and medicine as well as nutrition and health technology.
Fast pace from the beginning of 2009
SHOK will be aiming to respond to the challenges set by the health and wellbeing sectors. The objective is to prevent and treat illnesses that are important in terms of the national health and economy and to maintain and improve the individual’s functionality.The programme areas that are under preparation are brain health and functionality, intelligent monitoring of health and wellbeing, and obesity and its challenges.
