Finnkino, the leading cinema chain in Finland, has adopted brand new HD-ready digital presentation technology for opera screenings. The season opener, Salome, performed by the Metropolitan Opera in New York, played to full theatres. The opera had already been broadcasted live around the world.

The latest hit of the cinema world is 3D. Finnkino purchased its first projector, which met the strict standards of Hollywood for its Tennispalatsi cinema in Helsinki, but now 3D movies are already being shown in thirteen Finnkino auditoriums at seven locations.

Bringing innovative content to cinemas will continue. This summer the Finnish cinema goers have also had the chance to enjoy theatre. The cooperation between Finnkino and London National Theatre will continue throughout next year. Also the next season of the Metropolitan Opera will be broadcasted in cinemas. Reijo Jämes, the Marketing Director of Finnkino says that innovations are necessary and challenging, but they always present exciting opportunities.

Finnkino also experimented by bringing Formula 1 races to movie screens. However, it soon turned out to be too challenging, because pay-TV brought Formula 1 directly to people's homes.

Finnkino is part of Sanoma Trade, a division of the Sanoma Group.
