The Nokia N8 smart phone made history when the Finnish snowboarding championships held in Ruka 7.–10.4. were filmed in their entirety on smartphones. This was the first time that a television broadcast had been made using smartphones.
The project was implemented by the production company Flatlight Films. A four-man film team shot the event on smartphones using the same accessories they would use with regular cameras, such as rails and stands. The event was screened on the MTV3 channel’s Finnish snowboarding championships programme.
The idea pitched up first among snowboarders thanks to the high definition of the popular N8 phone’s camera. As well as the championships, the piece included mood scenes and action outside the event as well.
