The University of Jyväskylä will export the Finnish primary-school model to Adu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, where an interest in developing the local school system according to the Finnish model has emerged.

The project in Abu Dhabi involves the establishment of two lower primary-schools, where teaching is provided according to the Finnish school model. As the project gains ground, also Finnish teaching personnel will be recruited.

– Finnish teachers will teach four subjects in English while other subjects are taught by local teachers, reports the Managing Director at UniServices Ltd. Timo Juntunen to YLE News.

The education project is headed by UniServices Ltd., a project management and consultancy company owned by the University of Jyväskylä. The final decisions regarding the project are expected to be made in February. The project is funded by the Finnish Business Delegation under the auspices of the Minister of Trade and Industry Mauri Pekkarinen.

According to Anita Lehikoinen, the Director of the Division for Higher Education and Science at the Finnish Ministry of Education, the Arab countries are not only interested in the Finnish teacher education system but also in education within the social services field.
