Lehtikuva/Mikko Stig
Up to 32 per cent of the Finnish exporters, who took part in the Business Barometer for Russia 2009 expect trade to increase in the coming months. The Russian response to the same question was nearly exactly the same and 33 per cent of them expect to be increasing their imports from Finland. The most positive outlook to the growth of Finnish exports were expressed by the trade sector. The strongest faith on Finnish imports was among the Russian industry.

A third of all Finnish companies operating in Russia believe their business to grow in the near future and up to 47 per cent believe their operations to remain unchanged. The expectations are positive in all sectors, but trade sector indicates the most outstanding optimism.

Out of all the Finnish companies exporting from Russia 17 per cent have had some degree of growth. 46 per cent of the companies have had no changes in their imports. A third of the Finnish companies expect their imports to increase. The exports to Finland have gone down for approximately half of the Russian companies. 47 per cent of Russian exporters assume that their exports will remain in the same level as previously.

An overall positivity prevails towards future possibilities, since a very small part of the participants expected their exports or imports to reduce. The stance to Russian economy is much more positive in Russia, where 29 per cent of the companies believe that the country's economy will continue to go down. In Finland the corresponding percentage was 42.

The Russian Barometer has been effectuated by the FRCC, Finnish Russian Chamber of Commerce.
