Finland achieved 12th place in Connecting to Compete 2010: Trade Logistics in the Global Economy report, compiled by the World Bank. The study was based on the most comprehensive world survey of international freight forwarders and express carriers in 155 different countries. In the last report, which was compiled in 2007, Finland ranked 15th.

Finland ranked among the top ten for instance in the functionality of customs clearance, traffic and telecommunications infrastructure and expertise in the field. In addition to this, handling times were short in Finland and the number of necessary documents and official bodies was internationally speaking comparatively low. Accessibility to international transport connections, where Finland ranked 19th and on-time deliveries on 25th place could still be improved. The comparison was carried out by using meters belonging to the Logistics Performance Index (LPI). Germany was the top performer among the 155 countries.

– The report benefits business by giving a fresh estimate of what kind of and how functional the worldwide logistics environment is. Officials can use the report in comparing how functional Finnish logistics expertise is compared to other countries. This is such important information, when Finland’s central logistical position is taken into consideration, says Professor Lauri Ojala from Turku School of Economics. Mr. Ojala is one of the main authors of the report.
