Finnish inventor gets a gong for her user-friendly blood glucose meter

MODZ Finnish inventor Salla Koski has developed a user-friendly blood glucose meter for children.
Salla Koski, the Finnish inventor and founder of MODZ, has won a second place in European Women Inventors and Innovators Network (EUWIIN) award ceremony in Reykjavik, Iceland. Koski has created a user-friendly blood glucose meter for juveniles called Dr. Skull, and the product is expected to reach the markets next year. Top price went to the Swedish Asa Magnusson, whose underwater device can be used as a lifesaver.

Koski is originally a licensed physiotherapist. Her frustration with patients not being motivated to do prescribed exercises or administer necessary self-care led to her studying industrial design with the focus on user-friendly interfaces. Combining the two disciplines, she created a user-friendly blood glucose meter for juveniles, Dr Skull.

EUWIIN award ceremonies are organised every second year, and this year 60 inventors across Europe were competing for top prices. In 2009, Finnish Eija Pessinen was chosen the European Union Women Inventor & Innovator of the Year for her revolutionary system of childbirth. The same year, Finnish Maija Itkonen, was named the “Innovation Winner” for developing an integrated wireless charging solution, which which converts basic furniture into smart energy platforms.
