The Finnish people are very proud of the Finnish education. National sense of pride applies also to the safety and quality of Finnish products as well as local expertise. This information was discovered through a survey called ‘Finnish Barometer’, which was carried out by the Association for Finnish Work. The research was based on the opinions of over 500 Finnish people within the age range of 15 – 79.

The highest marks given to Finland came from people aged 35 – 49. Remarkable 36 per cent of these people gave Finland top marks, nine or ten out of ten. This age group had also changed its opinions about Finland since the latest Finnish Barometer two years ago, moving towards a more positive standpoint. Pensioners gave Finland the worst marks of all the age groups. Less than 20 per cent of Finnish pensioners gave the country top marks.

Nearly 60 per cent of the barometer’s participants expressed exceptional pride in the Finnish education system. The strongest support came from those over 25 years. The age group under 25 was more critical. Over half of the participants were particularly proud of the safety of Finnish products. Up to 83 per cent of the participants estimated Finnish products to be safer than imports.

The participants also showed that Finnish people are aware of the potential of globalization to Finnish economy. Over 60 per cent of the participants considered Finnish companies to succeed much better when operating internationally rather than relying solely on domestic markets.

- From the viewpoint of Finnish work the results of the Finnish Barometer express several positive aspects. Despite the global nature of the current economical crisis consumers understand that they can play their part in improving Finnish economy by simply buying local products, concludes Lars Collin, CEO of the Association for Finnish Work.
