Finnish cleantech expertise showcased in Silicon Valley
Tekes / Jari Eklund Many Finnish cleantech companies have a strong presence in the North American market.According to Cleantech Finland Finnish companies have highly valued expertise for instance in solutions relating to intelligent electricity grids, which are in great demand internationally.
- Intelligent electricity grids, the so-called ”energy internet”, combine information and communication technology to electricity infrastructure. Finnish information and communication technology is internationally acknowledged. This is a good starting point, when creating our profile as the specialist of intelligent electricity grids. We already have expertise in the field and the market is huge, tells Program Manager in Cleantech Finland, Santtu Hulkkonen.
Hulkkonen tells that Finnish cleantech companies have taken an active role in looking for partners in the North American market, which is considered very challenging. For instance 23 percent of Kemira’s turnover in 2009 came from North America.
According to Hulkkonen another good example of courage and innovative touch is the Finnish wind turbine manufacturer Moventas, which has utilized the supporting structures offered by different markets. The American Reinvestment and Recovery Act recently granted Moventas a 4.1 million dollar tax credits intended for building renewable energy.
The Cleantech Finland brand project supports the growth of Finnish environmental business, and brigs together Finnish top experts in the field of cleantech. The brand is owned by the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK.
