Finnish and Swedish contemporary art in 350 year old Eskilstuna

Eskilstuna Art Museum celebrated the Swedish National Day June 6th, with the opening of an extensive exhibition on contemporary art in Finland and Sweden. The exhibition is part of the commemoration for the year 1809, and it was opened by King Carl Gustav XVI together with Queen Silvia. Year 2009 marks the bicentenary of Finland's separation from Sweden.

The presence of the royal couple honoured Eskilstuna's 350-year anniversary.

Do Not Cover (Ei saa peittää - får ej övertäckas) exhibition presents art work from 35 artists on both shores of the Gulf of Bothnia. The exhibition will be open all through the summer, until September 6th.
Eskilstuna has also been embellished with environmental art work by the students of the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts.
