Finnish Air Force achieves international acknowledgement

Mil.fi

The international readiness unit of the Finnish Air Force has passed NATOSs quality standard as the first air force from a non-NATO country.

After passing the evaluation the international readiness unit is ready to operate in international crisis management operations. The first object of evaluations was the unit's ability to handle flying tasks in the, such as the monitoring of a no-fly zone in a crisis context.

The Air Forces equipped and trained its readiness unit for two years. As the unit was registered for NATOs multilateral evaluation an international expert team began evaluating the operational skills in crisis management of the unit's six F-18 fighter jets and personnel.

The unit shifted in August-September to Trollenhagen air base in Northern Germany. Nearly a hundred evaluators from several NATO countries evaluated the performance ability of the Finnish unit. The observations were carried out round-the-clock. The evaluation team compiled its results on September 25th and the unit was given an official report, which confirmed that it had passed the evaluation.

This means that the international readiness unit of the Finnish Air Force is now officially available for crisis management operations. The authorization is in force for three years.

According to the air force the qualification in the evaluation is a significant international acknowledgement of the expertise of the Finnish Air Forces.
