Finnair launches brand new check-in system

Finnair

Finnair has introduced a new-generation control system, which will be used in all processes connected with passenger check-in, aircraft load planning control and gate service. The Altéa Departure Control System has been developed by Amadeus.

Seat booking, electronic ticket management and aircraft departure processes are now for the first time in the same system, which facilitates, for example, an easy transfer of customers from one flight to another in the event of timetable changes. Finnair promises also more efficient customer service particularly in special situations and emergencies.

- The renewed system means that there will be smoother access to flights, giving Finnair the opportunity to give individual service to its passengers who have special needs, explains Tom Källström, the director of Finnair Automation Development.

Thanks to the new system travel agencies and Finnair can now specify for customers their preferred seat numbers right up to the time of check-in. When seat numbers are chosen before arrival at the airport, check-in is significantly faster. Internet check-in is available 36 hours prior to the flight departure for all scheduled flights.

The system will be used worldwide by more than 2,500 personnel in Finnair's and Finncom's scheduled traffic network. Development, introduction and staff training took a total of six years.
