Young chef Lasse Koistinen, who has worked in the well-known Crazy Reindeer-restaurant in Lapland for nine seasons, has won the Young Chef of the Year 2009 award. The competition, which is organized annually by Chaine des Rotisseurs -association was held in New York this year.

At the moment Koistinen works in Olo restaurant in Helsinki. He has previously also worked in the Copenhagen restaurant Noma, which was chosen last year as the world's third best restaurant.

Twenty participants from all over the world were chosen for this year's world championship, which was held in New York. The competitors were not informed of the ingredients which would be available in the competition. The young chefs were asked to prepare a three course meal for four people. The compulsory ingredient for the starter was trout, for main course chicken and goose liver, and for dessert, blueberry.

Finland succeeded in the Young Chef of the Year-competition also four years ago in Bermuda when the Tampere-region representative Arto Rastas won gold.

Next year's Young Chef of the Year-competition will be held in Helsinki.
