Jyväskylä's Kangaslammi celebrated the opening of a new activity park yesterday. The two hectare park area consists of lawns, plantations, playgrounds and areas for ball and other outdoors games. The main attraction of the park however is the new Parkour practice ground, which is the first of its kind in Finland.

The new Parkour area has been built in cooperation with enthusiasts of the sport. The park environment has been peppered up by versatile elements, which offer challenge and possibilities also for more experienced Parkour enthusiasts.

The practice grounds, which have been built specifically for Parkour are relatively rare also elsewhere in the world. The park in Jyväskyläs's Kangaslammi is Finland's first built Parkour-sanctuary.

Parkour is a discipline, which was developed in France in the 1980s. It is focused on moving from one point to another as smoothly, efficiently and quickly as possible using the abilities of the human body and elements of built city environments. Parkour has slowly attracted more and more enthusiasts also in Finland and it is popular especially among young people.
