Finland receives over 100 billion Euros for developing Green Technology
EU has decided to allocate a third of its regional politics budget of 2007-2013 for supporting the growth of green economy. This amounts up to 105 billion Euros. The goal is to generate employment and encourage the establishment of new, environmentally aware companies.
Out of the total funding of promoting "green employment", 54 billion Euros will be allocated towards the adjustment of the member countries to the requirements of the EU Environmental legislation. The investment for developing water and waste management alone is 28 billion Euros.
EU has also allocated 3 billion Euros for the development of SMBs (small and medium businesses) and their environmentally friendly products and production. Alongside this development the aim is to employ ever more people in the field of green technology. The funding will last until 2013.
Lahti Science and Business Park has worked towards developing environmental technology and enhancing the co-operation between SMBs, education and management. These activities were enabled by the EU commission's 1,5 million Euro contribution. The EU commission funded project has generated 170 new Cleantech jobs, 20 new companies and investments totaling up to 30 million Euros.
The executive director of the Finnish Cleantech sector, Mari Pantsar-Kallio from Lahti Science and Business Park, continues being hopeful. " Lahti has applied funding for several initiatives in the Cleantech sector. The fact that the EU commission considers the previous projects as success stories gives the current applications a positive prospect", she mentions.
