Finland in the spotlight on the Frankfurt Book Fair 2014

Lehtikuva/ Aino Leskinen The Finnish Government agreed to fund Finland’s presence at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2014.
According to the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE there is a tight competition between countries seeking to be in the spotlight at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Each country can only be chosen once. Finland has been propelling the project already for three years. The total budget of the project is estimated to be about four million euros in 2010-2015. The share of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Employment and the Economy would be a maximum two million euro.

– Since Germany is the most important country for Finnish literature export, it is natural to invest in the building up of this specific market, highlights the Minister of Culture and Sport Stefan Wallin in YLE News.

The Frankfurt Book Fair is the most significant international literature event. A feasibility study carried out about three years ago indicated that the project has potential of creating lasting benefit for Finnish literature, and culture and education export.
