FiDiPro programme brings international top expertise to Finland
Tekes/ Matias UusikyläThree young researchers have been appointed as FiDiPro Fellow researchers within the FiDiPro research projects, while two internationally acknowledged professors have been nominated as FiDiPro professors. These two top experts are Professor Venkatachalam Chandrasekar, a specialist in quantitative remote measurement and classification, from the United States, and Professor Grzegorz Glinka from Canada, who is known for his groundbreaking research on the applications of crack mechanisms.
The researchers will work for the Aalto University, Lappeenranta University of Technology, University of Oulu and the Finnish Meteorological Institute. The research projects will advance for instance tissue technology, environmental measuring and monitoring systems, all around information technology for city environments and energy-efficient wind turbine solutions, as well as carrying our research on fatigue crack mechanisms in steel structures.
FiDiPro is a funding programme initiated in 2006 by the Finnish Academy and Tekes, which offers Finnish universities and research centres the possibility of employing international, or expatriate Finnish top researchers for a fixed period in Finland. A total of 53 FiDiPro professors have already been funded to work in Finland. In 2009 Tekes initiated FiDiPro Fellow funding, which seeks to attract young, promising researchers to take part in Finnish research teams. Tekes has funded a total of seven FiDiPro Fellows this far.
– FiDiPro Fellow, intended for young researchers has increased its popularity. We wish that the programme helps us to establish more intense, long-span research between Finnish and international top research teams, says Director General of Tekes, Veli-Pekka Saarnivaara.
