The Finnish dental equipment manufacturer Planmeca Oy has received an order in excess of EUR 70 million from Saudi Arabia.
Planmeca’s equipment solutions are destined for an extensive dental development project in the country. The delivery consists of three digital learning environments for the Boys’ & Girls’ College of King Saud University and the Saudi Arabian National Guard.
The learning environments include more than 1 000 dentistry devices, some 100 simulation units, 2D and 3D imaging systems and a software solution. This year, Planmeca will also supply a similar learning environment consisting of 127 dental devices and imaging systems to the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio. It’s the largest investment in the industry in Finland.
Planmeca’s dental equipment and teaching solution is being used in a number of educational institutes throughout Finland.
— Planmeca’s competitive edge is based on the considerable investments we put into our own product development and on close co-operation with leading academic R&D organisations and commercial actors, says Planmeca Oy’s President, Heikki Kyöstilä.
The company cites its centralised infection control system as its greatest competitive advantage. The system automates the hygiene procedures carried out on clinics’ dental care units. The hygiene solution is chemical-free and saves energy. It was developed in co-operation by Planmeca, university researchers specialised in infection control and commercial partners.
Founded in 1971, Planmeca is the third largest manufacturer of dental equipment in Europe and the largest privately owned company in the industry. Some 98 percent of the company’s production is exported. Planmeca has nearly 2 400 employees, more than 900 of whom are in Helsinki.
