FC Barcelona on US tour with Finnair aircraft
The football club FC Barcelona is heading to its US tour in August with an aircraft hired from Finnair. The team has rented an MD-11 with 282 seats with its entire crew for almost two weeks.
- This event is rather unique for Finnair, because the wide body aircrafts are rarely vacant. There are not many airlines in the world, which can rent out these kinds of aircrafts in the middle of the summer. This was possible for Finnair as the company is going through a fleet renewal, where new planes are being received and some of the old ones removed, says John Virkkala, the Assistant Manager of Leisure Flights at Finnair.
The plane was decorated with FC Barcelona's team logos last week at the Finnair Technical Services. The crew of the private charter flight includes two captains, a co-pilot, two pursers and eight flight attendants.
- The first flight with FC Barcelona team has been done already. The journey from Barcelona to Los Angeles went very well, just like the first match where FC Barcelona beat Los Angeles Galaxy, told the managing purser of the cabin, Sami Sievä.
In addition to the recent trip to Los Angeles, the aircraft will also fly at least to Seattle and San Francisco.
