The European Research Council has granted the researcher Marko Terviö over a million Euro funding for the project Talent and Learning in Imperfect Markets. The funding has been allocated for a five-year period. Terviö will begin his new post as Professor at the Department of Economics at the Helsinki School of Economics on July 1st. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the University of California, Berkeley.

The objective of the EU’s special program, IDEAS is to boost the level of European competence by creating a joint and internationally attractive arena for basic research funding. Implementation of the program is managed by the European Research Council, ERC.

ERC funds researcher-driven, high quality basic research carried out by small research groups. Funding is granted to all fields of science and technology and the funded projects are selected solely on the basis of their scientific excellence. The research must be carried out in an EU Member State or in an associate state within the framework program.

The ERC Starting Grant, aimed at researchers in the beginning of their career, was granted for the second time this year. This is the first time that ERC funding has been granted to a researcher from the Helsinki School of Economics.
