Cleantech and food processing industry enter Tekes’ accelerator program Vigo

TEKES / Jari Eklund Vigo-program expands to cleantech and food processing industry.

The Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy has chosen three new accelerators for Vigo-program coordinated by the National Technology Agency of Finland, Tekes. These new participants are Cleantech Invest Ltd, Koppi Ltd and Food Process Innovations Ltd. The goal of Vigo-program is to accelerate the growth of start-up companies through professional financing and consulting. The aim is to boost the Finnish venture capital market and attract international accelerator players and venture capitalists into Finland.

Vigo-program was launched last spring by the Ministry of Employment and the Economy together Tekes and Finnvera's venture capital company Vera Oy. The initial acceleration focused on three companies.

Lifeline Ventures focuses on health, wellbeing and telecommunications themes while Lots Ltd. operates in the fields of media technology, games industry, graphics technology, user interfaces and digital contents. Veturi Venture Accelerator Oy is an expert on ICT, information and communication technologies.

The recently chosen accelerators will expand the Vigo-program by two new fields of operation: cleantech and food processing industry. Koppi Ltd will focus on complementing ICT-operations with its expertise on Internet and mobile solutions, says Liisa Rosi from Tekes. She is responsible for the coordination of Vigo-program.

- Accelerators are a concrete way of supporting growing companies. They are also a fine example of the utilization of the expertise of the private sector in publicly funded operations, says Rosi.

Rosi confirms that the three accelerators chosen to the program earlier in the year have already gained a good foothold in the business with their first clients. Tekes has already confirmed funding for the start-up phase of five more young, innovative companies, and more applications continue being processed.
