City of Lahti strengthens its position in Finnish design

Sinituote Sinituote is one of the signers of the constitution of the Finnish Design Foundation.

Finnish Design Foundation has been established in Lahti. The opening took place last Thursday. The foundation collects funds and allocates them for design related research, education and development in Finland.

The foundation has its own design and media laboratories in Lahti. According to the design foundation representative Pekka Koivisto the foundation's first projects are concerned with product design of pharmaceutical and technology industries. The foundation was initiated by Lahti Industry Association and has been realized with the leadership of the Managing Director Vesa Luhtanen.

The 16 signers of the constitution include for instance the City of Lahti, several local companies and Metso Group, Ruukki and Sinituote. The City of Lahti has invested 5.000 Euros for the regulating capital of the foundation and is prepared to fund the project by 100.000 Euros annually for the next four years.

The annual budget of the Finnish Design Foundation is expected to be about two million Euros.
