Charging points for electric cars increase rapidly in Finland

Finland's first on-street charging point was opened last week by Helsinki Energy in Kamppi.
The energy company Fortum has also installed electric car recharging points for instance in the park hall of the department store Stockmann. Fortum has promised that in January similar charging points will also be available at Stockmann's in Turku, Tampere and Oulu.
Ensto, Fortum and the City of Espoo will also grace Christmas by opening new charging points in Kaupinkallio parking house in Tapiola. Head of Technology at Ensto, Matti Rae promises that in the future charging will happen whenever it suits the driver. According to him there is a possibility that in a year's time there will be at least 50 public charging points in Finland.
The Head of Development at Helsinki Energy, Jussi Palola estimates that in year 2030 there will be at least 75.000 electric cars in Finland. His wildest estimation holds the possibility of up to 170.000 electric vehicles. This vision is backed up by the Helsinki University of Technology. At the moment there are 250.000 cars in Helsinki.
Also the Electric Cars in Finland -taskforce has set high goals for electric cars. By 2020 a quarter of all the cars in Finland should be electric cars, out of which 40 per cent operating solely on electricity. Naturally, the number of charging points for electric cars must also increase radically.
