Cargotec seals raft of new orders
Cargotec Cargotec ship to shore cranes are heading to MexicoCargotec has secured major port crane orders to Mexico, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The company has received two separate orders from one of the world's leading container terminal operators, International Container Services Inc (ICTSI).
The orders will see four ship-to-shore cranes and ten rubber tyred gantry (RTGs) cranes delivered to Mexico during the first half of 2013 and eight RTGs cranes to Philippines during 2012. The value of the orders has not been disclosed
ICTSI's Contecon Manzanillo facility is a new container terminal under construction on Mexico's Pacific coast, where work has started on a first phase development that will see 450,000 teu of capacity available within two years.
A teu, or twenty-foot equivalent unit, is the basic container measurement used in the shipping industry. It is the equivalent of a container 20 feet long by eight feet.
Meanwhile, the eight RTGs for The Port of Manila International Cargo Terminal (MICT) reflect the planned expansion of the container hub’s Berth 6, from 1.9 million teu per year to 2.5 million teu. The Berth 6 will begin operations in June.
In addition Cargotec has received an order for two more rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes featuring Zero Emission technology to Tan Cang Technical Services Joint Stoke Company, a subsidiary of Vietnam's leading terminal operator Saigon Newport (SNP)
The deal follows the successful performance of six existing models at the Tan Cang Cat Lai Terminal in Ho Chi Minh City which SNP operates. They became the first Zero Emission RTGs in Asia when they were purchased earlier this year.
SNP is Vietnam's largest container terminal operator, handling 80 per cent of the import and export volumes in the Ho Chi Minh City area and nearly 50 per cent nationwide.
