Boliden recycles electronic scrap metal with Outotec Kaldo technology

Bolden Thanks to Outotec’s Kaldo furnace technology Boliden’s Rönnskär copper smelter’s electronic scrap recycling capacity will rise threefold.
Finnish specialist in minerals processing and metallurgical technologies Outotec has signed a contract with Boliden AB for the delivery of Kaldo furnace technology to Boliden's Rönnskär copper smelter in Sweden. The delivery will be a part of Boliden's electronic scrap recycling facility expansion. The expansion will increase Rönnskär's processing capacity significantly from the current level of 45,000 tonnes to 120,000 tonnes of electronic scrap per year.

Outotec's scope of delivery covers the Outotec Kaldo furnace, which is one of the biggest components of the recycling facility. The new generation Kaldo furnace is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2011.

– Outotec is increasingly involved in environmental business. 76 percent of the orders we received last year were Environmental Goods and Services according to OECD criteria. This order is an example of how our technology can be used for recycling of metals, says Outotec CEO Pertti Korhonen.
