Blobo makes a global bid with its guidance system

Ball-IT
Oulu-based Ball-IT has brought a blast of fresh air to the games market. The company’s wireless Blobo games controller and its related games console has been on the market since 2009. The idea behind the ball-shaped games controller lies in its inbuilt movement sensors which allow the player to really get into the games. Players control their characters, for example, by shaking, squeezing or throwing Blobo.

Unlike other games consoles, Blobo features an inbuilt controller and you can use either a TV or a computer screen for the display.

The story behind the Blobo product family actually began with the games controller itself.  Following its launch the range has been enhanced with various games based on the use of the controller. According to Juha Rytky, Ball-IT’s Managing Director, development of this games area has recently been the focus of the company’s operations.

Availability of Blobo has expanded during the spring of 2010 both to the Baltic countries and to Great Britain, and according to Mr Rytky, the next tentative steps in the export drive will be directed towards Asia and the American continent. Making inroads on the Asian markets is likely to be helped by the place Ball-IT managed to secure at the Shanghai World Expo.

- In Shanghai we are at the “We are the World” pavilion where new technological innovations are being demonstrated. Being at the World Expo is an excellent shop window for us, notes Mr Rytky.

He sees achieving visibility and consolidating their position as being Ball-IT’s next goals on the competitive games markets.

- Our technology and our products are ready for the markets. Now we’re trying to get the brand well known, but that costs money. Marketing requires funds that we need to achieve by growing our experts, Mr Rytky explains.
