BLAAST The Blaast and XL collaboration was celebrated in Jakarta on January 24th.  Present at the event were XL CEO Hasnul Suhaimi and Blaast CEO Joonas Hjelt, Indonesian Minister of Data and Communication Tifatul Sembiring as well as Finland’s Minister of European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb.
Start-up company Blaast has signed a major deal with the Indonesian telecoms operator XL.  Under the terms of the agreement, XL’s more than 43 million users will be able to start using the app developed by Blaast for basic mobiles. XL is the world’s first telecoms operator to collaborate on  mobile app development with Blaast.

By installing the Blaast app on their mobiles, subscribers will get unrestricted access to various apps without additional data charges.  The apps will allow, for example, group-based gaming, access to news and the use of Facebook and Twitter.

— At present XL’s data services are accessed by more than 24 million people, or more than half of our subscribers.  We expect Blaast will contribute to the growth of usage of our data services, explains XL CEO Hasnul Suhaimi.

Blaast has made inroads into growth markets as it is expected that in the future more and more people will access the net using basic mobile phones.

Blaast makes use of cloud technology to access mobile apps, allowing users of basic phones to access the same type of apps that smart phone users can.

XL is one of southeast Asia’s leading telecoms operators. Blaast was founded in 2010 and its investors include the founders of Skype.
