Biolan expands to Russian market

Biolan Biolan believes that dry toilets will become more common at Russians’ dachas.

Biolan, which specializes in environmental products, is setting up a sales company in St Petersburg. Biolan has been looking into and clarifying the business opportunities in Russia for a couple of years, particularly in the areas bordering Finland. The company intends starting sales in Russia at the beginning of next year.

Biolan's impression is that there is considerable demand potential in Russia for organic fertilizers and nutrients as well as for dry toilets and composters. The company believes that the growth of the middle class in Russia and the spread of environmental awareness will create a good basis for an increase in demand.

In the initial stage Biolan will focus on sales in the St Petersburg area, but the company is ready for a quick expansion to other centres in Russia.

Biolan is expecting its turnover at the end of its accounting year in July to go up by more than ten per cent compared with the previous year's figure of 25 million euros. It does not seem, therefore, that the recession has affected sales of garden and environmental products.
