Baltic Sea cruising increased in the spring
MEKThe spring brought a fair rise in the passenger numbers of the cruise ship companies operating in the Baltic Sea region. For instance the Helsinki-Tallinn cruises increased strongly in popularity in the first half of 2009. The passenger numbers of Tallink Silja and Eckerö Line rose by over 12 per cent this May, when compared to last year's figures.
According to the information released by both companies, the number of carried vehicles grew by approximately 30 per cent.
Tallink Silja, Viking Line and Eckerö Line all believe that cruises will continued attracting passengers this summer. All the companies have invested in their summer repertoire more this year than in previous years.
The companies have also embarked on marketing short holidays in the Baltic Sea region. This summer's passenger numbers are expected to grow also along the routes to Latvia, Germany and Denmark.
The most striking rise of passenger numbers has taken place on the route between Helsinki and Tallinn, which is operated by Eckerö Line. The cruise company made its all time record with its passenger numbers for the month of May.
