G.W. Sundmans in Helsinki is the first restaurant in Finland to be awarded Wine Spectator magazine’s Best of Award of Excellence for its wine list.

Wine Spectator’s awards are esteemed all over the world and have been referred to as the “Michelins” of wine lists. There are three award levels: Grand Award, Best of Award of Excellence, and Award of Excellence.

The magazine grants the awards annually to restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers. The wine list must include vintages and a wide array of wines available by the glass.

The Best of Award of Excellence won by G.W. Sundmans is given to restaurants that clearly exceed the basic requirements of the Award of Excellence. These lists contain, for example, more than 400 wines to choose from, a high number of vintage wine selections and/or a wide range of wines across several wine regions. A total of 835 restaurants around the world have made it into this category.

The wine list compiled by Jussi Ansaharju, a sommelier at G.W. Sundmans, contains more than 500 wines.
