ABB to supply electrification of the Montes del Plata pulp mill in Uruguay

ABB is to provide the electrification for the new pulp mill in Uruguay’s Montes del Plata jointly owned by Stora Enso and the Chilean forestry company Arauco.  The factory is located in Punta Pereira, in south-western Uruguay.  The mill, costing 1.9 thousand million US dollars, represents the largest single investment ever made in the country.  Annual capacity of the mill will be 1.3 million tonnes and expected completion is at the end of 2013.

— ABB Finland has been delivering electrification projects to the pulp and paper industry for more than 40 years. This deal again marks an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our know-how in the total management of projects, comments Manager Mikael Ingo of ABB.

The contract includes power distribution and process electrification for the pulp mill, including the main transformers, 33 kV power distribution system and control system, smart motor control switchgear, all motors and frequency converters.  Project management and design will be handled by ABB’s Process Industry unit in Vaasa.
