ABB delivers electric motors to irrigation project in India

ABB will deliver nine 22.5 megawatt synchronous electric motors to the state of Andhra Pranesh in South-East India. The delivery is part of an irrigation project, where water from three major rivers in the region is pumped a distance of 300 kilometers to the highest masonry dam in the whole world. This water is then utilized by farmers in the region.

The energy efficiency of the pumping is guaranteed by the high operating efficiency combined with ABB's frequency converters, which start the engines without overloading the grid.

ABB has delivered power and automation technology applications to several irrigation projects to Andhra Pranesh region, known as "the Rice Bowl of India", one of India's most agriculturally productive regions. During the dry season nearly half of the region is dependent on irrigation. As a result of ABB's irrigation projects approximately 3.200 square kilometers of arable land can now be irrigated.

The electric devices included in the contract are manufactured by ABB Oy in Helsinki. The deliveries are timed to take place in the second half of 2011.

ABB is a leading provider of power and automation solutions. It employs about 120.000 people in 100 countries. In Finland ABB employs nearly 7000 professionals.
