Ecomp helps tidy up Dubai with waste compactors

The city of Dubai has taken into use Ecomp’s underground waste compactors. Ecomp’s SIRLIFT system stores the waste compactors underground in a cool space and out of reach of animals. This frees up space above ground for other uses. One system corresponds to around 200 traditional 600-litre waste containers.

Before, waste bins in the Deira area of Dubai had to be emptied even several times a day simply due to odour-related problems. Now, thanks to the SIRLIFT system, waste only needs to be collected once or twice a week. The system sends a gsm alert when the container is full.

Altogether nine systems will be installed during the ongoing project and the value of the contract is more than EUR 2 million. Plans are underway to install 50 more systems next autumn and in spring 2013.

Ecomp Oy is a Tampere-based family company that manufactures waste management equipment. The company’s net sales in 2012 will equal around EUR 5 million and it employs 30 people in Finland. The company has made international deliveries to Moscow, Beijing, Zurich and Stockholm, among others. Last year Ecomp’s underground waste compactor systems were conferred the InnoFinland Prize for the Pirkanmaa area.
