Finland wins silver at World Junior Chef of the Year 2010 in Dubai
Wednesday, 03 March, 2010
The Finnish team cooked itself to the second place at the World Junior Chef of the Year competition held in Dubai. The team consisted of chef students from HAAGA-HELIA University of Applied Sciences.
– Silver is a top class achievement, the best ever ranking by a Finnish team of chefs. This is a big thing to the Finnish restaurant industry, says Outi Westman, the Director of HAAGA-HELIA’s degree programme in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management.
– Our team produced a very Finnish-looking presentation and represented young chefs honorably.
The teams prepared and set a full-buffet table for 20 people. The jury evaluated the ingredients, presentation, tidiness, hygiene and for the first time also the taste of the food. Another challenge was the location of the competition, Dubai, since no alcohol or for instance gelatine were allowed in the competition.
The members of Finland’s Culinary Junior team were Tatja Mäenpää, Kira Weckman, Risto Tepponen and Toni Kostian. The team’s captain was Juha Rissanen from Southern Finland's Chef Association.
