Angry Birds 2 tops 1 million downloads in 12 hours
According to Finnish games company Rovio, it took just 12 hours for Angry Birds 2 to reach one million downloads, after its release on 30 July.
Whilst there have been numerous additions to the Angry Birds world since the launch of the original game in 2009, Angry Birds 2 is its first official sequel. The new game retains the slingshot format and a slew of familiar faces familiar to fans, yet offers some noticeable changes.
“Design technology has evolved dramatically since the original game launched in 2009,” says Rovio co-founder Niklas Hed. “With Angry Birds 2 we wanted to bring a level of expressive depth and detail seen previously only in a console game or animated series – and create a new game that kids and adults alike won’t be able to put down.”
The Angry Birds series has become the most downloaded mobile game series of all time, numbering some three billion downloads.
The next step for the studio sees the series moving to the big screen, with an upcoming Angry Birds film scheduled for release in 2016.
