Aki Kaurismäki’s latest film becoming a bestseller

The distribution rights of Aki Kaurismäki’s award-winning film The Other Side of Hope have already been sold to 81 countries.

The film is fast becoming the bestselling entry in Aki Kaurismäki’s oeuvre.

The Other Side of Hope (in Finnish, Toivon tuolla puolen) will premiere in most European countries later this spring. On top of that, the distribution rights have been sold to North America, the Middle East, North Africa and several countries in Asia and South America.

The movie tells the story of the interconnecting paths of a Syrian refugee and a Finnish commercial salesman, played by Sherwan Haji and Sakari Kuosmanen respectively. The movie was lensed by Timo Salminen.

The film brought Kaurismäki the best director award at the Berlin Film Festival this year. Reviews have showered the film with praise. According to French news magazine, L’Express, The Other Side of Hope is the best Kaurismäki movie ever, because it is “touching and humanist, like the man himself”.
